Ex-footballers visit Shotton

On Friday, ex-professional footballers, Gary Bennett and Dean Gordon, came into school to work with Year 10 students in a 'Show Racism the Red Card' workshop.

After a team building football session on the field, students spent some time reflecting on their attitudes towards minority groups as well as considering what is and isn’t racist or discriminatory.

Many of the students commented that they thoroughly enjoyed the day and it had challenged views and misconceptions about different groups within society.

The staff from Show Racism the Red Card were very complimentary about our students, actively praising them for their high levels of engagement and thoughtful ideas throughout the day.

We hope that a some of the students involved in the workshops will now become Diversity Ambassadors to promote equality throughout the Academy.

Show Racism the Red Card is the UK's leading anti-racism educational charity. They provide educational workshops, training sessions, multimedia packages, and a whole host of other resources, all with the purpose of tackling racism in society. Find out more here

Well done to all involved.
