Welcome to our new Future Teaching Scholars

Say hello to our new Future Teaching Scholars who have simultaneously started university and joined our teacher training programme Shotton Hall SCITT!

Three of the waving students pictured start at university this month, they will all be mentored by staff at Shotton Hall SCITT throughout their degrees on their road to becoming specialist maths and physics teachers. The other students pictured are now in their second year of university and the Future Teaching Scholars programme.

The Future Teaching Scholars programme is a new and exciting route into teaching. It's designed for exceptional students who plan to study a maths or physics-related degree at university.

Successful applicants are awarded a valuable scholarship package that includes:

  • a £15k grant whilst they study for a maths or physics-related degree 
  • extensive personal and professional development support for six years based in outstanding Teaching Schools including:
    • national and regional events exclusively for Future Teaching Scholars
    • exciting school-based activities during their undergraduate years
    • opportunities to be involved in research to improve Maths and Physics teaching
    • a place on an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) course tailored to your needs
    • a pre-ITT course in the summer after they graduate
    • support in finding their first teaching job
    • membership of an elite cohort of Future Teaching Scholars
