Last week Serbian teacher, Anica Tričković, visited Shotton Hall Academy as part of the Erasmus International Schools Project. Taking a break from the Challenging Stereotypes Conference, held by Mr Kell, Anica stopped by for a quick chat to tell us some interesting facts about her home country.

Anica told us that Serbia is a country in the Balkans that borders Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Monte Negro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. The majority of Serbian population are Orthodox Christians and their church still uses the old Julian calendar which is thirteen days behind, meaning that Serbs celebrate Christmas on 7 January.

Anica also told us Serbs kiss three times when they meet and that the most famous Serbian we may have heard of lately is tennis player Novak Djokovic as well as footballer Aleksandar Mitrović who plays for Newcastle United. Nikola Tesla is their most famous scientist and inventor - why not give him a Google!

Traditional Serbian meals are sarma, gibanica, pljeskavica, ćevapi, kajmak, proja and ajvar and from drinks - rakija šljivovica (plum brandy).

So there you have it - you now know lots about Serbia thanks to Anica who really enjoyed her visit to Shotton Hall, telling us:

"Your school is like a dream, so colourful, I would love to work here. You are very lucky."
