On 3 February the Academy hosted ‘Safer Internet Day’. Safer Internet Day is a world wide campaign that aims to share knowledge about the internet, its proper use and the dangers that the internet presents when it is misused.
The day started with a talk from our local police community support officer who gave us insight into the importance of online safety, online laws and some top selfie tips - he must have been a regular snapper! After the chat, the students took part in a Kahoot Quiz on online safety to test if they had taken anything in - they passed with flying colours.
Later in the day, with the help of our digital leaders, parents and pupils attended an informational seminar hosted by the NSPCC. We gathered in the performance hall to ‘unite for a better internet’ whilst the rest of the world did the same.
The event was celebrated globally by millions of internet users looking to increase their knowledge of the internet and stay safer online. With a theme of ‘seeing is not always believing’, the event saw students get involved in creating their own ‘emoji’ (for those of you who have never heard of an emoji, they are pictures symbolising emotions that are used online and on smart phones) relating to internet safety.
