Congratulations to our executive principal, Lesley Powell, who received her CBE from Prince Charles at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on 7 December.
Rubbing shoulders with popstar Ed Sheeran, Mrs Powell joined others from the north east and across the UK to be formally recognised for the contribution she has made to society through her work at the Academy and for the North East Learning Trust.
Speaking of the day Mrs Powell said: “Visiting Buckingham Palace and receiving my CBE was certainly one of the best days of my life and is an experience I will treasure forever. To be awarded this honour for doing something I love is a great privilege. I was lucky enough to be able to share the day with my family, who also loved every minute. After the ceremony we rounded off our celebrations with a family dinner together in London - a great day and one I will never forget!”
