Goodbye to long serving teachers

Although it is the end of the school year and everyone is excited to have six weeks off, it is also a sad day at Shotton Hall today as we say goodbye to some of our longest serving and most loved members of staff.

First mention goes to PE teacher Mrs Doyle who started teaching at Shotton Hall in 1976 – an impressive 40 years ago. Inspiring a love of sport and activity in generations of children, she retires today to live a life of leisure and luxury.

Next to retire is Miss Wolfendale, the flame haired whirlwind of the English department! English lessons just won’t be the same without Miss Wolfendale.

Mrs Cook is also retiring after 16 years as a drama teacher at Shotton Hall. Mrs Cook is a huge energy in school and has been the driving force for our plays, shows and musicals over the years. She is leaving enormous shoes to fill.

Mrs Pickering also leaves us today to move to a different part of the country. Mrs Pickering started at Shotton Hall in 2001 teaching history and philosophy for learning. She has also led careers work across the school for many years.

Last to retire today is Mrs Smith who has tried to retire before, but swears this time she means it! Mrs Smith initially started teaching in 1969 as a primary teacher before becoming an English teacher in 1972 and joining our pastoral team in 2006.

Thank you all for your dedication and commitment to the our school.
