Huge well done to hard-working and proactive student Lauren Robinson who was recently presented with a Special Achievement Award for her generous voluntary work in and out of school.
Students from across Durham were invited to attend Durham centre for the County Leadership Awards evening earlier this week organised by County Durham Sport.
Students Lauren Robinson, Shannon Hetherington and Evie Broom each won a certificate which was presented to them by Chris Cook, British olympic swimmer and Peter Graves, Sky Sports News presenter.
Lauren got the prestigious Special Achievement award after completing an astonishing 180 hours of voluntary work this academic year from a combination of in school leadership for netball and out of school leadership linked to a local community football club. The organisers said:
"Lauren has developed her knowledge and confidence over the year and she now manages the Year 7 netball team and assists with the training for the Year 8 and 9 boys teams. She freely gives her time to attend the training and matches for each team all outside of her normal school hours.
"She confidently umpires matches and presents herself as a role model to other younger students both in our school and around the partnership. She has extended her skills and tactical knowledge from attending courses linked to the national governing bodies and willingly passes on her love of the game to others. She is a highly reliable and able young coach who deserves to be recognised for her commitment and passion to help others enjoy the gains of physical activity and sport."
Well done to all the Academy students who won awards at the ceremony.
