The whole school went back in time this week to learn about 'A Christmas Carol', a novella that is studied as part of the GCSE English Literature exam.

The English department hoped the Victorian themed days would be insightful for the students to understand and learn about the social and historical context of the 'A Christmas Carol'.

Departments from across the school got involved in activities across the two days including:

  • English staff got into character in their Victorian costumes
  • A Victoran elf hunt
  • A Victorian/Christmas themed photo booth
  • A staff Christmas choir
  • Victorian parlour games
  • Science looked at Victorian medicine/disease
  • Geography studied Christmas around the world
  • Maths solved Christmas themed problems using Victorian money
  • History looked into Victorian Britain
  • P4L studied the suffragette movement and different religions/celebrations of Christmas
  • Media watched and reviewed A Christmas Carol adaptations/film trailers
  • Health and social care took a look at Victorian healthcare
