There were some big smiles at Shotton Hall today as 4 year old Brooklyn visited us to receive a very special Christmas present from Mr Bradley, Mr Davies and Miss Pearson in the technology department.

Brooklyn and his family drove up from Doncaster to be presented with an incredible 3D printed hand that our teachers had made for him. Brooklyn is missing his right hand, but now, thanks to a special company in America and our teachers, he has a fantastic 'Iron Man' hand that will allow him to grip, pick up and hold objects just like a real one.

Brooklyn quickly got the hang of his new hand and enjoyed high-fiving everyone and holding his Mum's hand for the first time with his new right hand. The design for the hand came from a company called E-nable who design prosthetic hands for children and adults. They provide design files free of charge and our teachers 3D printed the hand to look like Iron Man as this is a character he loves. The largest part of the hand took nearly six hours to print and in total it took around 15-20 hours to print.

Well done Mr Bradley, Mr Davies and Miss Pearson for all your hard work.

You can see Brooklyn and his iron man hand on ITV news tomorrow night - 15 December.
