The Academy has successfully achieved the schools ‘Equalities Award’ demonstrating our outstanding commitment to equality.
The Equalities Award is a national scheme aimed at all schools and children’s centres. It recognises compliance with the Equality Act 2010 as well as exemplary work that an organisation does to promote equality and fairness and eliminate discrimination.
To gain the award the Academy had to demonstrate to award verifiers how we promote equality and eliminate discrimination across school including how we support children with special educational needs and LGBT students.
The award also recognises the exemplary work we do outside normal lessons including encouraging learning outside the classroom and careers education.
Lesley Powell, our executive principal said:
“I became a teacher because I strongly believe that every child has an equal right to an excellent education. This belief is something that guides everything we do at Shotton Hall, where equality of opportunity and access to high quality teaching and learning is embedded into the entire curriculum.
“Every child has talent and it is up to us to seek out and nurture it, encouraging all students to have the highest aspirations for the future, regardless of their background.
“We will proudly display our Equalities Award and ensure that equality remains central to the ethos of our school.”
