57 local Year 6 pupils were in school yesterday to watch an anti-bullying performance by Year 10 GCSE drama students.
The play was a theatre in education performance which the students devised as part of anti- bullying week at the end of last year. They performed to the whole of Year 7, 8 and 9 at the time, but decided that they also wanted to target primary pupils with the message where they each represented an emotion and spoke directly to the audience about how people are affected - both as victims and as bullies.
The play focusses on the importance of speaking out about bullying - hence the title 'Make a Noise'. It also focusses on the often unseen emotional effects of bullying with each student wearing a t-shirt highlighting an individual emotion.
Students also created a different version of Queen’s ‘We will rock you’….‘WE will STOP you!’ and changed the lyrics so the song became about bullies and how they could be stopped. They also created mini role plays illustrating what students should do to report bullying and stop it.
If you or anyone you know is being affected by bullying, you must speak to an adult. Talk to your sept tutors, head of year or your teachers. If you don't feel like you can do that, use the confidential help form on the front page of the Shotton Hall website.
