Over the last few weeks, staff and students from The Academy at Shotton Hall have been collecting mountains of food to donate to the local foodbank in Peterlee. Click here to view photos.

Over 1000 students generously donated tins, packets, dried food and treats to East Durham Trust’s FEED (Food Emergency East Durham) project.

The foodbank provides food parcels to people in East Durham who are in crisis situations whether it’s for an individual or a family. The FEED project relies entirely on donations of either food or cash from the public and from local businesses.

Students at The Academy at Shotton Hall chose the project for the third year running because it is a cause close to home. The idea that they are helping neighbours, friends and their local community, especially at this time of year, motivates them to give generously.

Valerie Bell, Assistant Principal at The Academy at Shotton Hall said “Every year I am amazed about how much food is collected in school. All of the students and their families have been extremely generous and have shown the true spirit of Christmas. We hope this food helps to ensure that no-one goes hungry this Christmas.”

Well done and Merry Christmas everyone!
