Millie is currently studying A-Level Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths at Durham Sixth Form Centre.
She said: "I find it fascinating to explore the fundamental parts of the world and how everything around us works. I am currently in my last year so will be completed in 2027.
"I am likely going to study Biomedical Science, potentially followed by a graduate entry medical course with the insight to push the boundaries of knowledge and make future advances in healthcare and medical research.
One of my proudest achievements is the balance I have developed between my curricular studies and independent academic research. I have undertaken three substantial research case studies, developing NHS-accredited dissertations on Alzheimer’s disease and Haemolytic Disease of the Foetus and Newborn, alongside a further project exploring the blood–brain barrier and its relationship with cognitive impairment.
I remember the unconditional support from the teachers at The Academy at Shotton Hall, which really made a difference. It stood out the most when everything seemed to come together and pay off, which couldn't have happened without everyone's help.
The summer after GCSEs holds so many memories that will always be the highlights of my life, many of them come from simply having my favourite people so close to me.
My time at Shotton Hall pepared me both academically and personally. It helped me to build confidence in my ability and develop a work ethic. Beyond that, it taught me to stay motivated and keep pushing even when it feels too challenging. It really shaped the way i approach both studies and personal challenges.
I aspire to work in healthcare and to make a positive impact, and go on to do research. I hope to stay curious and open to new opportunities in a field of science which is constantly evolving."
