62 new teachers have been launched into schools after graduating from The Academy at Shotton Hall's initial teacher training programme on Friday.
Now in its third year, the school-based course known as Shotton Hall SCITT (school-centred initial teacher training) has put some of the brightest and best new teachers through their paces, learning in school from day one. Visit the dedicated Shotton Hall SCITT website here.
Teacher training has traditionally been the auspice of universities, but new courses like that delivered at The Academy at Shotton Hall in Peterlee offer an alternative route where hands–on classroom experience is offered from the outset.
Director of the Shotton Hall Teaching School Alliance Bryan Stephenson said:
“We are all extremely proud of this year's graduates. Each one has proven over and over again that they are excellent teachers, most of whom have already secured teaching jobs in the north east.
"Our training programme is going from strength to strength each year as more people choose a school-based route for their teacher training. In partnership with our alliance of over 50 schools, colleges and universities across the region, our new graduates have had access to what we believe are some of the best teacher training experiences on offer and are leaving us with a strong and lasting foundation to build their teaching careers upon.”
All of the 62 graduates have now been recommended to the National College of Teaching and Leadership for ‘Qualified Teacher Status’ with a final formal graduation ceremony from course partners Durham University taking place in July.
