Statements, education, health and care plans (EHC)

If a pupil arrives at the Academy with a statement of special educational needs we will hold annual review meetings to review progress and set appropriate targets and plans going forward.

As of September 2014, any child with a statement will either have their statement transferred to an EHC plan or have it discontinued if we are able to comfortably meet their needs within our allocated funding. The process of transferring to an EHC plan or ceasing the statement will take place by the end of the summer term 2017.

If the decision is made by county that a statement will cease and not be replaced with an EHC plan, it will be in prior agreement with all parties including the student, their family, the school and any external agencies or professionals involved.

In the case of not transferring to an EHC plan, the school will create an SEND support plan in conjunction with the student and their family to set outcomes and make provision appropriate for that child within our own resources. This will involve following the assess (what are the need/needs of the student?), plan (what support do we need to put in place?), do (put the support in place), review (after a set period of time, usually six months, review how it has gone and return to assessing the next steps) process and setting SMART targets (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-based).
