In 2016, students achieved the Academy's best ever results, significantly exceeding national averages and placing us top in County Durham.

  • 81% of students achieved English and maths GCSEs at A*- C
  • 80% of students achieved 5 or more A* - C grades including English and maths
  • 96% of students achieved English language/literature GCSE at A*- C (national average 60%)
  • 81% of students achieved maths GCSE at A*- C (national average 61%)
  • 93% of students achieved at least one science GCSE at A*- C (national average 60%)
  • 38% of students achieved the EBACC qualification
  • Our Progress 8 estimate is 0.3 and our Attainment 8 score is = 5.7 (B-). Our Progress 8 score shows that our students made significant progress whilst at the Academy and our Attainment 8 score shows that they left with very high attainment. You can read more about these measures here and learn how they are calculated. 
  • 99.5% of students went into education, apprenticeships, jobs or training.


In 2016, 43% of students were in receipt of the pupil premium. Of these:

  • 73% achieved both English and maths GCSEs at A*-C 
  • 71% achieved 5 or more A*- C grades including English and maths
  • 23% achieved the EBACC qualification

New grading system

From August 2017, some exams will be graded using the new grading system that uses numbers rather than letters (from 9-1 rather than from A*-G). You can find out more about how it works on the website here or download the parent factsheet here
