The technology department is a vibrant, well equipped department where students are taught to use industry standard software and equipment to help ready them for their careers.

With the pace of technological development and the need for more sustainable consumerism, design technology has never been so vital. Students here at the Academy are given opportunities to solve design based problems that meet consumer needs but which also address current issues within the world of work.

What's been happening in the technology department recently?

Students have been producing some amazing food and product design assessment work recently. Some of which has received multiple compliments on Twitter, including some from famous celebrity chefs. Take a look at the pictures here. Selected product design coursework was used by the exam board to show excellent example work.

The Academy has contact with a specialist from Durham University Outreach Centre who runs an exciting SMART materials workshop. The workshop includes practical opportunities for students to investigate and use a variety of materials including; phosphorescent, Kevlar and photochromic. Then students get to create their very own products including UV bracelets and thermochromic paints! This is an excellent opportunities for students to build up skills to prepare them for KS4.
