Music

Music at The Academy at Shotton Hall is a thriving and dynamic department that nurtures students' creativity.

Students develop skills in composing music, performing music and listening to and understanding music across five areas of study; rhythm and metre, harmony and tonality, texture and melody, timbre and dynamics and structure and form. These are explored through three strands of learning - Western classical tradition, popular music of the 20th and 21st centuries and world music.

If you enjoy listening to lots of different types of music, you already play a musical instrument or are keen to start lessons, and you enjoy creating music of your own, then you should definitely consider taking music as one of your options.

What's been happening in the music department recently?

We are in the process of starting up more extra curricular activities to work alongside the already in place week by week diary which include: steel pan band, various choirs, string ensemble and wind band to name just a few! The department are also looking into many more concerts around the area and and even branching out into Europe!
