Media studies

Media studies is taught in our purpose built media suite where students have access to up to date hardware such as still and moving image cameras and Apple Mac computers where they can create and edit their work.

Students study all aspects of media studies across their course, learning how to analyse and deconstruct media texts. They create advertising campaigns and their own films - in fact, staff and students in other years often tell us that there always seems to be at least one group out filming within the school at any point in the day! Mind, they have to be prepared as they are often roped in to playing a part in the latest epic or a victim in a horror film!

What's been happening in the media department recently?

In the past, three pupils have picked up awards at East Durham College for their film making. The pupils worked from concept to production to create horror films, and through their hard work and commitment produced good quality (and scary!) films.

Media studies
You never look at a film or TV show in the same way after taking media. You learn all the tricks behind the camera, as well as getting the opportunity to create your own stuff.

I love media as it is a very interesting and diverse subject. It gives different opportunities to get creative using new technology as well as getting to watch and analyse fantastic TV shows and films!
