Media studies

Media studies is taught in our purpose-built media suite where students have access to up to date hardware, such as still and moving image cameras and industry-standard software packages.

Students study all aspects of media studies across their course, learning how to analyse and deconstruct media texts. They create advertising campaigns, their own films and are now branching out into website design and music video creation. Be warned: staff and students should be prepared as they are often roped in to playing a part in the latest epic or a victim in a horror film!

What's been happening in the media department recently?

Year 9 students got the opportunity to design and create their own animation, thanks to a group of young film-makers. Their work is set to be exhibited and screened at some point next year! Click here for a sneak preview.

Year 10 media students took their first steps into radio with a joint venture involving EDC and Capital Radio. Students explored various aspects of radio (including advertising and broadcasting) and one lucky group have won the opportunity to visit the Capital Radio studio to get a feel for a real radio station. Congratulations!

Media studies
You never look at a film or TV show in the same way after taking media. You learn all the tricks behind the camera, as well as getting the opportunity to create your own stuff.
